Short Summary- A mischievous little girl goes into the home of three bears while they are away one day. She eats their food, sits in their chairs and breaks one and falls asleep in one of the beds. When the bears come home and see her she makes a quick escape out of the window.

 

Focus- One focus is to learn about manners and another is how it is important to obey your parents.

 

Comments and Questions:
Today we are reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. You may have heard it before. Let’s see if it is any different from a version you’ve heard.

Pg. 3 It looks like Goldilocks is about to go somewhere she shouldn’t and maybe get into trouble. Show all the signs on p.3

 

Pg. 7 So here we see that the bears are leaving their house. I wonder what will happen while they are gone?

(Maybe Goldilocks will show up and may cause trouble or get into trouble)

 

Pg. 11 What do you think about what Goldilocks is doing?

(It isn’t polite and her mother told her she shouldn’t go into the forest because she had heard that bears lived there)

 

Pg. 13

Now what do you thinks this brown fur really is?

(It could be a bear’s fur. Goldilocks’ mom warned her about bears)

 

Pg. 16

The word tuckered means tired. That is why Goldilocks says she is going to take a snooze.

 

Pg. 19

Oh no. It says the bears are coming home. How do you think they are going to feel? (upset, wondering who messed up their house)

 

Pg. 23

Smithereens means broken into pieces. The story tells us when Goldilocks breaks it earlier in the story. ( Refer back to p. 15)

 

Show p. 26 after Mama Bear says “Somebody has been lying in my bed”

 

Wrap Up

Was it a good idea for Goldilocks to disobey here mother?

It wasn’t a good idea to go into the forest where she didn’t belong. Something bad could have happened to her at the bears’ house. Also it was not polite for her to mess up others things.

Focus: The focus here is that it is important to behave because it is the right thing to do and also you never know who may be watching.

p.7 This sounds like a warning for these kids that they should behave. 

p.9 I wonder who it could be. Who do you think it is? Let’s keep reading and find out.

p.11 Relieved-comported or free from worry

The children were relieved because they did not get Miss Swamp.

p.14 What do you think the kids are going to do? Show p. 14 before p. 15

p.18 I wonder why Miss Nelson looks so funny? I believe these kids have dressed up as Miss Nelson.

p.19 Now they have fooled the principal

p.21 It looks like they are about to get in trouble.

p.23 It believe Miss Nelson is going to teach her kids a lesson.

p. 25 Who do you think it is this time?

p.27 Do you think Miss Swamp is a witch?  Could she be somebody we know?

p.29 Impersonating means pretending to be someone else. The kids were pretending to be Miss Nelson.

Wrap up- Looking forward

It is important that you be on your best behavior even when the teacher is away. Do you think these kids will behave from now on if there is a substitute?
